Summary 341

Missed a summary-day again, yesterday.  So we’ll make it up today with this three hundred and forty-first entry, in a row.  You can tell from yesterday’s post, written in cabs and on planes, in transit that it wasn’t a time for reflection or even basic fact checking.  A peaceful feeling, to be back at home.  Even though I’m not able to post this till 2:41 in the morning.  Conditional “peace.”

Back in Beijing and it is a lovely fall day.  This is, certainly, the best time of year here in this town.  Though I don’t remember many awful days this summer.  The fall is the time to visit. Two years in a row had good friends visit at this time. A third was to have come this year, but can’t.  Soon, we’ll have to brace ourselves for the dread winter, which now begins to loom more pressingly.   Each day now just a bit shorter till its undeniable.

And with this in mind I note that this will be the last stretch this year, of a twenty- day cycle.  Five (or now four because I’m running late a day) days after that, a twentieth year of China will have been lived and I’ll pause and consider what, if anything to do with this collection of 365 cheng yu, and 365 musical explorations, and 730 photos, that have been viewed approximately 7000 times.  First we’ll have to live twenty-four more good days.

Briefly, I had a scare today.  For some reason the interface to Blogger seemed to be only showing a portion of the entries for any given period.  So while the number tally showed twenty entries, the physical number available was only fourteen.  This happened as I went back in time, looking at the distance from the last 20-entry mark as well.  Scratching my head for a while I broke out the calculator and reckoned with the monthly number tallies on the side, which seemed accurate.  I’m still not sure why that happened, but after a lot of cross checking all twenty I’d written since the last tally were suddenly back and viewable and the overall calculation made sense.   I started wondering about what would have happened if these suddenly started vanishing . . .
