Mountain View. I don’t think I could really visualize down
town Mountain View, the way I could downtown Palo Alto or San Mateo. Miraculously, three of my meetings for the
day were all within a ten-minute drive in downtown Mountain View. The fourth meeting agreed to meet us up in a
café there in town as well.
Driving over from
Oakland was fast enough, given it was rush hour and once we realized we should
be driving in the carpool lanes. We
rolled up to Red Rock Coffee at 7:45AM, as we were supposed to a joined the
queue for our stimulants. I grabbed a
two-seater which abutted the handicapped seating place and tried to claim a bit
of both as we waited for our first meeting, who suggested he’d be late.
The espresso was
dark, delicious. Off to my right I
couldn’t help but eavesdrop on the two young ladies at the table there beside
us. One lady who seemed to be of Chinese
descent was talking about coding jobs with another woman who was of Indian
descent. The prior was complaining to
the latter that the company in question was too “crunchy.” But soon, our guest arrived, and we were
discussing his fund and his portfolio in detail.
The next meeting
was a short walk away. The one after that was
a drive across town but after heading over and considering its location ten minutes
away, we decided we didn’t want any of the mall food and slipped back down the 101, one quick exit, to where we had been.
He’d just had Mexican. I ‘d just
had Thai. So, we settled on an Italian
place along the road, staffed with eager waiters reasonable food. We took our meeting aback near the mall and
swiftly returned to exactly the same location to Eureka, a bar where we were to
meet. The 45 single version of Jumpin’ Jack
Flash was on as we entered, and I involuntarily became sucked up in the
interplay between Keith and Brian Jones.
We waited for my friend till we realized she was already there, over by
the window. And after a good chat we finally left Mountain
View around 4:00PM and sped back up to San Francisco.
